Tool manufacturer launches new quarterly for professional mechanics

By Brad Knutson

Snap-on Incorporated, a professional manufacturer of tools, diagnostics and equipment, recently launched its very own publication for the one million professional technicians using its products. Simply dubbed Tech, the quarterly magazine is hand delivered for free to mechanics via Snap-on’s 4,000 nationwide dealers.

But Tech isn’t just for auto mechanics. It is a lifestyle magazine that highlights the latest mechanical gadgets and toys for technicians, and it covers everything from classic car restoration to VIP tours of racing shops.

The publisher, High Velocity Communications LLC, says its mission is to provide comprehensive coverage for technicians of all kinds, whether they work on planes, trains or automobiles. According to Snap-on, Tech is the only publication dedicated exclusively to the professional technician.

Of course, like anyone else, mechanics don’t work all the time, so Tech also provides stories on recreational activities, hobbies, vacations and sports. The summer 2005 issue, for example, features an article on how to barbecue ribs on the grill and another story on which bass lures work best.

Making the Pitch

High Velocity CEO Warren Eulgen says Tech is always looking for pitches about new mechanical gadgets as well men’s leisure and outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. “Basically, any type of new product or activity that targets a male audience is of interest, “ says Eulgen.

All press releases and pitching inquiries should be directed via e-mail to Tech editor in chief Peter Kennedy via e-mail.
