Adorn Magazine

Dare to decorate…

By Whitney Greer

Fire up the glue guns. Roll out the sewing machines. And have a set of knitting needles ready. It’s time to Adorn.

Trendy and cutting edge don’t typically describe most arts and crafts projects. But Adorn Magazine, which launched June 13, wants to revamp those conceptions and give the hobby a new image.

“Most of the existing craft magazines speak to a specific hobby,” said Linda Permann, the magazine’s craft and decorating editor. “Adorn Magazine is a forward-thinking magazine that, unlike traditional craft magazines, is not necessarily telling readers to do things one way. We hope they’ll see our project and make theirs to their own specifications.”

Packed with unique projects, new products and step-by-step pictorials, the magazine is aimed at crafty and creative women between 20 and 40 years old who are interested in learning new techniques in craft innovation.

“Most of them are Internet saavy and are interested in innovative tools and unique supplies,” Permann said. “But we also wanted to introduce our readers to basic sewing, crocheting and other do-it-yourself crafting techniques.”

Adorn’s premiere issue featured articles on various forms of crafting, from fashion to home décor, all directed toward simplicity and inspiration.

“Most of our projects are geared towards easy embellishment that looks fabulous and takes only a little time,” she said.

The magazine’s Web site acts as a supplement to keep readers involved between issues, Permann said. It also has a blog that features craft fair news, new products and fun craft tips.

The publication also wants to challenge its readers in a way that other craft magazines may not, by stitching together a tighter sense of community.

“We recognize that being crafty is a lifestyle and lots of people who knit also want to make jewelry or learn about sewing and decorating,” Permann said. “It’s about a community where we can inspire each other.”
