What is RSS?
RSS is an automatic digital delivery tool used by blogs and other internet publications. When an RSS-enabled website is updated with new content, the new content is then pushed through an RSS feed to an RSS aggregator (such as My Yahoo, Bloglines, Newsgator, etc.).
The major advantage of RSS is the time it saves in surfing the web. Instead of visiting each and every website or blog in which you are interested (a task which could take all day - if not more), RSS lets you view all that content in one place – the aggregator.
You don’t have an aggregator? Most are free and come as either web-based or downloadable applications. Keep in mind that web-based readers allow you to check your subscriptions from anywhere with an Internet connection. Here are some of the best:
Web-based:
Bloglines – http://www.bloglines.com
Newsgator - http://www.newsgator.com/home.aspx
Pluck - http://www.pluck.com/
Downloadable:
Feedreader - http://www.feedreader.com/
Firefox Live Bookmarks (part of the Firefox internet browser) - http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
If you have a My Yahoo! or My MSN account you also have access to their web-based aggregators. Learn more at the links below.
My MSN - http://specials.msn.com/mytour/default.html
My Yahoo! - http://my.yahoo.com/s/guest-promo.php
